Artistic Director: Jim Alexander
Jim Alexander holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal performance from Grand Canyon University. He taught voice at the university for two years in addition to conducting New Life Singers, a contemporary vocal ensemble. Jim also earned his elementary education certification from Ottawa University and has taught in the Isaac School District. Jim has provided music leadership in several valley churches, vocal performance groups, and has also been a part of the Phoenix Symphony Chorus. He is currently serving The Church of the Palms, UCC as Minister of Worship and Fine Arts.
Accompanist: Tavit Tashjian
Armenian-American pianist Tavit Tashjian was born in Nicosia, Cyprus and came to the United States at the age of one. He began his first piano lessons when he was six years old, discovering very early in life that his desire was to become a concert pianist. His primary mentors and teachers have included film composer/pianist Marcelo Cesena, Alexander Toradze, Professor of the internationally renowned Toradze Piano Studio at Indiana University, and Dr. Caio Pagano at Arizona State University.
He has performed throughout North America and Europe recently being featured with Mississippi Symphony, Roanoke Symphony, Lima Symphony, among others. He has collaborated with conductors, musicians, and composers such as David Stewart Wiley, Crafton Beck, Blaise Magniere, Carlos Alves, Zae Munn, Tony Devroye, Emily Ray, and has recently recorded an album with British violinist Pip Clarke.
Secretary: Margaret Wright
Margaret is a retired lawyer and investment banker who, after growing up in the Midwest and living for 20 years on the East Coast, has lived in Arizona for over 20 years. She is a photographer and digital artist and volunteers with several non-profit organizations. Although she hasn’t sung with an all-women’s group since college, she has been singing with choral groups most of her adult life.
Treasurer: Autumn Wright
Autumn has been working in property and office management for over fifteen years. Her expertise spans a multitude of areas including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory, audits, and collections. She currently works for Willowcreek Apartments in Tempe, Arizona, where she manages a portfolio of over 600 accounts. Ms. Wright’s leadership skills include training and mentoring others in the industry.
Music Librarian: Jane Murdock
Jane has been Music Librarian since the start of Valley Women’s Ensemble (VWE). She also sang in Arizona Women In Tune for six years and the Methodist Youth Choir as a child. Jane is a 60’s folk singer and guitarist, and has recorded her own CD of songs written by her friend Anne Seale titled “SHE SNORES!” In addition to the VWE, you can find Jane performing at local open mics and folk festivals around the Valley.
Social Media Manager: Anya Morrison
Anya is currently living it up in the Phoenix area, working at a local charter school. She loves to sing and has been singing since she was a little girl. She’s very excited to have found Valley WE. This is her fourth season and she hopes to continue for many more!
Webmaster: Sarah Maschoff
Sarah is a digital marketer, copywriter and editor located in Phoenix, Arizona. Originally from a small town in Mississippi, Sarah is a graduate of Arizona State University and Barrett, the Honors College. An active member of Valley Women’s Ensemble, Sarah is proud to be working and singing with such a wonderful group of ladies (and Jim)!
